Artificial Intelligence (AI) Usage Policy

Custodia: Journal of Legal, Political, and Humanistic Inquiry recognizes the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in supporting legal research, political studies, humanistic inquiry, academic writing, and scholarly communication. Authors are permitted to use AI-assisted tools only as supportive instruments to facilitate research activities and manuscript preparation while maintaining academic integrity, intellectual responsibility, and ethical standards.

AI tools may be utilized for purposes such as language editing, grammar improvement, translation assistance, reference organization, literature management, data visualization, coding assistance, qualitative and quantitative data analysis support, document organization, and other technical aspects of manuscript development. However, all legal interpretations, theoretical arguments, policy analyses, historical or social interpretations, research findings, conclusions, and ethical responsibilities remain entirely under the responsibility of the authors.

Authors must transparently disclose the use of AI technologies within the methodology section, acknowledgments, or a dedicated AI disclosure statement in the manuscript. The disclosure should clearly identify the AI tool used and explain its specific purpose, scope, and contribution to the research process, including assistance in legal analysis, document review, textual analysis, or academic writing.

AI systems, generative AI tools, or automated technologies cannot be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot assume responsibility for intellectual contributions, legal reasoning, scholarly judgment, originality, accountability, or compliance with publication ethics.

The editorial team of Custodia: Journal of Legal, Political, and Humanistic Inquiry reserves the right to reject manuscripts containing fabricated legal sources, inaccurate political or historical information, manipulated evidence or research materials, undisclosed AI-generated content, misrepresentation of legal documents or social phenomena, plagiarism, or any practices that violate academic integrity and publication ethics.

Authors remain fully responsible for ensuring that submitted manuscripts provide original scholarly contributions, apply appropriate analytical frameworks, accurately represent legal, political, and humanistic perspectives, respect ethical research principles, and reflect the authors’ own intellectual work.
